Located on Madison Avenue, this stern-looking building was built in 1891 and designed by the architectural firm of Fuller & Wheeler. It originally housed the Fourth Precinct Police Station.Some years ago, when it housed a thrift store, I was told that some of the original holding cells still existed in the basement. Not that I ever had a chance to verify that or really wanted to.
The building is now the headquarters of Metroland, an "alternative newsweekly" that can be picked up for free all over Albany.
