Harry Simmons

This building along North Pearl Street bears the name HARRY SIMMONS. The company billed itself in an 1898 ad as an "Old Established and Largest Auction House In The State" and offered "appraisals of personal effects and Merchandise of every description." The company was previously located on State Street before relocating to this building near Lodge Street around 1913.

  1. My grandfather was Harry Simmons - but not sure if it was the same one -- my grandfather owned Simmons Furniture in Albany in the 40s/50s/ - he was born in 1888 (I think)

  2. Hi Comment for Scott Simmons. Writing from the UK. Yours seems to be the only reference I can find to a Harry Simmons in Albany from the right era. I have come across a large quite humourous 1900 captioned photo Album of a trip to The Paris Exposition & the UK on the Cunard ship R. M. S. Servia. The party is from Albany & Utica and includes Mr & Mrs Harry Simmons and Master Harry Simmons Jr. Helpfully it contains clips from the Morning Express, Utica Press and The Observer about a homecoming reception after the 2 month trip.
