An empty cart with an intriguing label sits near the Justice Building at the Empire State Plaza.  Actually,  Confidential Destination sounds like a rather good title for a spy film or a mystery novel.

Holiday Prep

There are still a few food trucks out by the Capitol and Thanksgiving turkeys are yet to be cooked, but the holiday tree is being installed on the Plaza.

Noose & Scythe

This ghastly Grim Reaper appeared quite suddenly on State Street on Saturday evening.  And I do mean suddenly.  He wasn't there when I walked down this street on the way to an ATM two blocks away, but was there when I came back up the hill just a few minutes later. 

I'm not sure if the figure - placed by the Justice Building at the Empire State Plaza - was intended as a protest or a prank or a decoration.  But it was quite seasonably spooky on a October evening...and gone by early the next morning.

The weather is finally getting warm and the fountains on the Empire State Plaza are splashing high.

Alexander Calder's Triangles and Arches is a familiar sight in the southernmost of the reflecting pools on the Empire State Plaza (and rather in need of a fresh coat of paint).  And, if you look at the just the right angle, you can see the artist's initials on one of the massive black panels.

Over

Graffiti on the vacant remnant of the Wellington Hotel.  This was the Annex on Howard Street (directly behind the main part of the hotel.)  The larger, newer building in the background is the State Comptroller's Office.

Filling Up

Now that Spring is (finally) here and the main platform of the Empire State Plaza is open again, the reflecting pools are being filled this week.  It won't be long before we see the fountains on.

Christmas Eve Snowman

We might still get a white Christmas (if the weather reports can be believed), but in the meantime, here's a snowman on the Empire State Plaza.  This rather exuberant little frost fellow was spotted on Christmas Eve as the ice rink was shutting down for the day and was made from the pile left behind by the Zamboni. 

A Sea of Leaves

Holiday Prep

A crew works to position this year's Christmas tree on the Empire State Plaza with the Capitol and Justice Building in the background.  Maybe it's the angle, but I think this one is a little shorter than last year's tree.

Graffiti Ghosts

The chemicals used to clean this graffiti from the wall of one of the stairwells atop the Empire State Plaza apparently etched the marble and left a more permanent version of the stick-figure scrawl.

The Happy Cone

A cheerful safety cone on the Empire State Plaza.  It's the second "decorated" cone I've come across.
