Rubble

The rubble left behind after the demolition of the Wellington Hotel Annex on Saturday.  The partially collapsed structure on the right is the old parking garage from the Wellington complex In the background, the bell tower of City Hall and, to the left, the DeWitt Clinton Hotel which is being renovated.

One Last Look

The final moments of the old Wellington Hotel's Annex on Howard Street.  This was the view of the Annex from the main platform of the Empire State Plaza just minutes before a rather colorfully choreographed implosion reduced the long-vacant building to rubble behind a cloud of smoke.

Over

Graffiti on the vacant remnant of the Wellington Hotel.  This was the Annex on Howard Street (directly behind the main part of the hotel.)  The larger, newer building in the background is the State Comptroller's Office.

The View From The Plaza

Looking slightly northeast from the main platform of the Empire State Plaza at part of downtown Albany. The large building with the red roof is the Office of the New York State Comptroller (the lobby has glass cases displaying some small items uncovered by archaeologists during the building's construction). The decaying brick building in front of the Comptroller's building is part of the old Wellington Hotel complex and the glass-enclosed archway (crossing part of Eagle Street here) is the walkway connection the Plaza with the Times Union Center.
